New Poker Run To Benefit Navy SEAL Foundation Launching In June

A longtime performance-boat owner, Mark Tuck has first-person experience with organizing events. For years, Tuck was among the organizing-team members for the annual Powerboating For A Cure Poker Run produced by the Mid Atlantic Powerboat Association on the Chesapeake Bay. In 2014, Tuck helped put together a successful assault on the V-bottom kilometer record by the Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats crew.

Now Tuck is working with his MAPA cohorts to produce the inaugural Tip Of The Spear Poker Run June 27-29.

A new-for-2024 go-fast boating event in Virginia, the Tip Of The Spear Poker Run is set for June 27-29.

Proceeds from the event based out of Waterside Marina in Norfolk, Va., will go to the Navy SEAL Foundation. Registration will open in February.

“The first registration block will open for sponsors and will be followed by general registration,” Tuck explained. “The course will run up the Elizabeth and James rivers with an optional leg in the Chesapeake Bay for a total run of approximately 120 miles.

“We picked the Navy Seal Foundation because the Tidewater Virginia area is one of two that have a significant Navy SEAL population,” he continued “Having some insight into the sacrifices that these guys and their families make on a consistent basis, I cannot think of a better organization to celebrate and support prior to July 4 holiday.”

Registration will be capped at 60 boats, Tuck said.

“The course we picked runs past the world’s largest naval yard and up the historic James River,” Tuck added. “It will provide fantastic water conditions for all types of boats. All accommodations are 4 star plus. This fill be a first-class event.

“We are hopeful that many in the Military and their families will visit us at the Waterside Marina and check out the boats and help celebrate this worthy cause,” he continued. “I am very excited to have MAPA on board for this event. Their expertise has been a crucial element in making this run a reality. I have also recruited Mike Goode to help with the promotion of the event.”
