New Facility Coming Soon For Waves And Wheels
In some positive news for Waves and Wheels at Lake of the Ozarks—the Central Missouri hot spot that is currently the center of the powerboating universe thanks to this week’s 36th annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout and accompanying Super Cat Fest—Justin Wagner, the owner of the Osage Beach, Mo., business, closed a deal to sell The Boardwalk, his marina at mile marker 26.

According to Wagner, who purchased the property in 2017 and restored and upgraded it to become a full-service facility with an impressive showroom and new docks featuring dozens of boat slips along with the fuel dock, the real estate transaction has been in the works for several months and closed last week.
“Although it is bittersweet, I feel very fortunate to be in this position and am super enthusiastic about the next chapter of Waves and Wheels,” said Wagner, who already has his eyes on property at the lake to build a production-style facility better suited for projects and for completing the Waves and Wheels Edition Doug Wright Powerboats catamarans the company has been selling for more almost two years. “It’s nice to see all the hard work we put into The Boardwalk pay off and make this place appealing to the right company. It was never fully set up for what we needed necessarily—it’s not a factory, it’s a marina and in that regard, it’s going to be an awesome place for sales, storage and service.”
That’s exactly what Doug Cooper of DLC Properties Inc. in Henderson, Ark., saw in the 27,000-square-foot facility. The performance boater who owns a 36-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran as well as a 38-foot Mystic Powerboats center console has been working on a large residential property on the other side of the lake and was informed that the marina “across the way” might be available.
“I had a friend contact me to see if I was interested in the marina so I told him let’s go take a look at it,” said Cooper, who is leasing the place back to Waves and Wheels for six months. “I went over there, looked at it and met Justin, and I could see the potential so I made them an offer. I’m either going to lease it out or lease to purchase—I am not interested in running a marina myself.”
Wagner is looking forward to seeing what Cooper ends up doing with the property.
“I’m really excited to see what comes of it,” Wagner said, adding that he and his wife, Cicely, decided to invest in the property seven years ago because they knew it had potential. “Sure, I’m going to miss it. When we lived up the road, we used to bring our girls fishing down here years before we took the leap and purchased it. But this deal is going to put Waves and Wheels in fast forward. I felt like we needed a new place—I just didn’t think it would be possible for at least another five years.
“Our team is going to be able to handle so much more with a shop designed specifically for the way we intend to do business,” he continued. “And I’m serious when I say I wasn’t looking to sell The Boardwalk. I had a client approach me about a year and a half ago and said, ‘Hey, you know, you really ought to consider selling your marina, the market is strong right now.’ So I thought about it and figured why not test the waters. I had been approached from investors before about selling it but the timing wasn’t right. The stars aligned when Doug came into the picture.”
Justin Wagner decided to invest in the facility seven years ago because he could envision its potential.
Wagner said that real estate agent Tyler Zimmerman, who specializes in larger, unique properties in the area, was the person who suggested selling the property.
“Tyler bent over backward finding me the right buyers,” Wagner said. “He had some good leads, but it took some time. I was uneasy about selling at first, but now I feel good about it—and not just because it’s positive for Waves and Wheels. It makes me feel good to know that we had something to do with turning this spot on the lake into a nicer piece of property for the community.
“I can’t wait to get to work on a new state-of-the-art facility,” he added. “I can’t thank Doug enough for making me feel so comfortable with this deal and for helping push Waves and Wheels into ‘fast forward’ mode.”
Cooper said he’s excited to see what Waves and Wheels does next and to get a new client up and running at the property. Anyone interested in the facility can contact Cooper directly at (870) 421-5331.
