New Cat And Cockpit-Crew Change On Tap For Super Stock Steele Team
The Super Stock-class Steele Offshore Racing team will campaign a new 32-foot catamaran from Fazza Marine for the 2024 season. It is the team’s second new raceboat from the Dubai-based builder in as many years.
Owned by Dominick Steele, the boat should be ready for Thunder On Cocoa Beach, May 17-19. The Cocoa Beach, Fla., event is second race of American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series season-opener, May 17-19, but first of the Super Stock series.
Dominick Steele and Ricardo Maldonado will run a 32-foot Fazza catamaran in the Suer Stock class this season.
In equally big news for the Steele team, Ricardo Maldonado will replace his father, Ricky, as the throttleman in the new Steele catamaran.
“With new sponsors for the new Doug Wright raceboat (in the 450R Factory Stock class) my father’s time will be tight so I’ll be throttling Steele this year,” said Ricardo Maldonado. “My brother, Julian, will remain in Super Stock with the Jackhammer team.”
The carbon fiber 32-footer is being painted and rigged at Manatee Marine Unlimited, which is owned by Sara Langheim, the wife of Jackhammer team owner Reese Langheim, and Julian Maldonado.
“It complies with all the new UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique) cockpit rules and specifications for the Super Stock class to race in the U.S.,” said Ricardo Maldonado.
