New Blood In Super Stock Ranks For Thunder On Cocoa Beach
Of the 12 Super Stock teams currently registered for race No. 2 of the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series in Cocoa Beach, Fla., this weekend, most are well-known to fans of the sport. Their cockpit crews include veteran throttlemen of the likes of Bill Allen, Gary Ballough, Ryan Beckley, Reese Langheim, Jay Muller, Shaun Torrente and others, as well as experienced drivers such as Randy Keys, Cole Leibel, Julian Maldonado, Chris Hopgood, Sean Conner and more.

But among the teams signed up so far for Thunder On Cocoa Beach, there are several rookie competitors. As reported yesterday on speedonthewater.com, the new Mom Ain’t Happy cockpit duo of owner/throttleman Scott Blumberg and driver Ryan Williams will compete for the first time in the Atlantic Ocean contest.
Also signed up for this Saturday’s Super Stock race, the JS Racing team of owner/throttleman John Strama and driver Connor Langheim had hoped to make last month’s season-opener in Marathon, Fla., their debut competition. But it wasn’t to be for the rookies as they blew over their 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran during Saturday’s practice and testing session.
Super Stock-class throttleman and owners group representative Ryan Beckley will introduce yet another newcomer to the sport. Driver Connor Toomey will join Beckley in the cockpit of the team Reliable Services Group raceboat.
Though he’s a Super Stock rookie, Toomey brings plenty of go-fast boating experience to the cockpit, especially when it comes to running a 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran. The Marylander has logged more than 200 hours in his 2022 model-year, Mercury Racing 300R-powered 32-foot pleasure boat from the Melbourne, Fla., catamaran builder rigged by Grant’s Signature Racing.
“I’m super excited to be running with Ryan in Super Stock,” said Toomey, a former dirt-track auto and go-kart racer. “It’s the most competitive class out there.”
The Super Stock race is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, at 3 p.m. Fans can enjoy all the action via the Powerboat P1 broadcast on the P1 Offshore Facebook page.
