Mystic’s M5200 Prototype Returns To Lake Of The Ozarks After Whirlwind Year

Since John Cosker, the founder of Mystic Powerboats in DeLand, Fla., debuted the company’s new M5200 luxury performance center console at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri almost a year ago, the 52-footer, which has four Mercury Marine Verado 600 engines providing the power, has made its way to events around the country and even been featured on the cover of the Speed On The Water 2022 Year In Review magazine, the first time the annual collector’s edition issue featured a single boat (see below).

According to a press release from Mystic, the M5200 prototype was recently delivered to returning Mystic customer Josh Denning on the same lake Cosker showed off the demo boat last year.

During its time as the company’s demo, Mystic put 250 hours on the 52-footer, covered 5,880 miles and burned nearly 10,000 gallons of fuel. After its maiden voyage at Mercury Racing’s Lake X in Florida and its stop at Lake of the Ozarks for one of the company’s largest performance boat events, Cosker and company took the boat to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in late-October, the Key West Poker Run in November, the Toys Tour in Northwest Florida in December to conclude the year. Then this year, the boat was the talk of several boat shows from St. Petersburg to West Palm Beach before heading to events ranging from a Mystic Owners Run in The Bahamas to the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run in Clayton, N.Y.

“John thought of everything when building this elegant and sexy boat,” said Denning, who owned an M4200 center console before purchasing the new 52-footer. “My favorite feature is how the M5200 handles the rough water of LOTO with performance, without giving up the amenities of a cruiser.”

Cosker said Mystic currently has a new M5200 demo boat in the works, which is going to make its debut at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show at the end of October. The boat has a new cabin layout that is four feet longer than previous models from Mystic.

“Up until we built the new M5200 model, my favorite boat that we ever created was the Mystic SL700—it was a custom-built 70-foot center console with Caterpillar diesels, Arneson surface drives and ran 80-plus mph,” Cosker said. “We built the boat in 2005 and it blew me away back then as to what an amazing boat it was. The M5200 has surpassed (the SL700) in so many ways. Using the latest technologies and exhibiting the growth of Mystic in the center console market, the boat reflects everything we strive to produce.

“My family and I have enjoyed countless hours on the boat and have had literally hundreds of people on board over the last year and we are really looking forward to our next one,” he added. “I think it’s very fitting that the boat will now live at LOTO where it debuted and I wish the Denning family nothing but happiness with it for years to come.”
