Sharp-eyed performance boat enthusiasts in town for next week’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri will catch something new on the water from Mystic Powerboats. The DeLand, Fla., builder is bringing M5200 No. 1—its largest center console to date—to the event for its public debut.

“It’s a brand-new design from the ground up,” said John Cosker, the founder and owner of Mystic Powerboats. “It doesn’t share any items with current models.”
Powered by four 600-hp V-12 Verado 600 outboard engines from Mercury Marine, the M5200 joins its smaller M4200 and M3800 center-console siblings in the Mystic lineup. Cosker said the 52-footer has a dry weight of 26,500 pounds, a 14-foot beam and a 650-gallon fuel capacity.

Additional features in the M5200 include bolster seating for 11, three luxurious lounge seats at the front of the console, a full glass wraparound windshield, an enclosed head locker with a separate shower compartment, a forward cabin with a dinette table that converts to a berth and an aft cabin.
“It’s another new direction for Mystic—more luxury in a bigger package that can travel longer distances, but with the same level of speed and performance,” said Cosker. “I think the M5200 is a ‘tweener’ between sportboats of a similar size but with narrower beams and less versatility and larger fishing-oriented center consoles that aren’t nearly as fast.”
Cosker and company tested the first M5200 at Lake X, Mercury Racing’s storied facility in St. Cloud, Fla., early last month.

“The boat blew me away,” Cosker said. “It looks like a yacht and drives like a sportscar. The Mercury V12s are amazing—the boat jumps on plane and accelerates hard. The top speed ‘light’ was 80 mph, making it the fastest Verado 600 outboard-powered boat in the world.
“When we loaded 2,600 pounds more and eight more guys on the boat, it only lost two miles per hour off the top end,” he continued. “At a 47-mph cruising speed, it gets three-quarters-of-a-mile per gallon. It even stays on a plane at less than 20 mph.”
For Cosker, the release of the new center console has an element of nostalgia.
“I realized a kind of cool thing today,” he said. “We are launching the M5200 center console during the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout at the Moorings marina, where 20 years ago we launched the Tencara catamaran (the foundation for the Mystic C5000 catamaran) and the Callan 55 V-bottom.”
