The owner and founder of Mystic Powerboats in Deland, Fla., John Cosker recalls putting 2,000 miles and 100-plus operating hours on his company’s most recent M4200 center console “demo boat.” It took Cosker and company a little more than a year to log those usage numbers, which are identical to the numbers he has on Mystic’s first M5200 center console demo model—with one major difference.
Getting there has in the 52-footer has taken just three months and change. Cosker launched the 52-footer during the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri in late August,

Most recently, he and his wife, Robin, ran the boat from New Smyrna Beach to Palatka, Fla., for the 21st annual Toys Tour, then to Jacksonville and back to DeLand—a total of more than 500 miles on the water.
Clearly, the Mystic principal has been enjoying the ride.
“It’s two things,” he explained. “One of them is ease of motion. The M5200 cruises effortlessly and when it gets rough you really don’t notice. Plus, it’s such a big boat that it’s easier to launch and run to a destination than to haul it there.
“The physical size of the 52 is a big part of it,” he continued. “But it also has great range. It holds 50 percent more fuel than the 42, but only gets 15 percent less fuel mileage. We did the trip from New Smyrna—Robin and I stayed overnight on it before we left and we were really comfortable—to Palatka and back on one tank of fuel.”
Earlier this month, Cosker and his wife, Robin, took the M5200 on a 500-mile trip to the Toys Tour in Palatka, Fla.
To date, Mystic has taken six orders for the M5200, including one that will replace its current demo model and will debut at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Hull No. 2 will hit the water for its first sea trial next week.
But much as he loved spending time on the 52-footer, Cosker said it’s been an invaluable experience that will breed improvements and updates for subsequent builds.
“We’ve been learning a lot about it, what we like, what we don’t like,” he said. “We’ve taken a lot of people on board who haven’t necessarily for it right now, but can afford it, and they’ve offered a lot of good suggestions. And it’s nice that we’re hearing comparisons to other luxury cruiser brands rather than performance-oriented center consoles. They’re asking for features you would see in those brands on the M5200, the kind of added creature comforts you need when you plan on cruising for 1,000 miles.
“It’s so comfortable,” he added. “It can run 80 mph but I’d rather just run 50 mph, cover distance and see new places in it.”
