Moore To Throttle Defalco Class 1 Raceboat
Starting with the Great Lakes Grand Prix next month in Michigan City, Ind., Billy Moore will join the ranks of throttlemen pulling double duty on race days. Mike Falco, the New York-based owner and driver of the 48-foot Class 1 Team Defalco catamaran, has confirmed that Moore will throttle the 48-foot Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats cat for the rest of the reason.

Moore replaces New Zealand’s Chris Hanley, who could not be reached for comment when this story went live, in the Defalco cockpit. He also throttles the Super Cat-class Graydel Skater raceboat with Canada-based owner Chris Grant.
“I think it will be good,” said Moore. “I’ve had experience in the bigger boats—with less and more power—and I raced Class 1 in 2008 in the Middle East. My first race was in a 46-foot Skater in Open class when I was 19 years old and fresh out of high school, and at the time Open-class rules mirrored Class 1 rules.”
According to Moore, the Defalco raceboat is on its way to his shop in North Carolina.

The Defalco team finished fourth at the Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 World Championship Series season-opener in Cocoa Beach, Fla. But the team didn’t compete in the following series race—the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix—earlier this month.
Grant said he is thrilled for his Graydel teammate and believes he’ll have an immediate and positive effect on the Defalco team.
“He’ll help get them in the hunt,” he said.
