Mod-V Class Series Returning With $120,000 Purse
As in several years past, there will be more in stake this season for teams competing in the Mod-V class this season than checkered flag in the five-race Mod V National Money Series presented by Powerboat P1. Competitors in the series of American Power Boat Association-sanctioned races will be vying for a share of $120,000 purse.

The winner of the series will receive $50,000, while second place pays $35,000 and third place pays $25,000, according to a press release this morning from Powerboat P1. The purse also includes per-race payouts of $5,000 for the winner, $2,500 for second, $1,500 for third, $1,000 for forth and $500 for fifth place.
Teams must start at all five rounds in the series to qualify for the overall prize purse and a minimum of the boats must start a race to qualify for the event payout, according to the release. All points “stay with the boat” so that the driver and throttleman can be changed during the season.
“It’s amazing to be involved in this prestigious series,” said Steve Miklos, the owner/throttle of last year’s national and world championship-winning Sun Print team. “It has the highest prize payout in the North American offshore series, and we are really grateful for the opportunity to compete for this prize money again this year.”
The fives race in the Mod V Powerboat P1 series are:
• Thunder On Cocoa Beach, May 18-19, Cocoa Beach, Fla.
• Shootout Offshore, May 29-June 1, Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.
• Midwest Challenge, August 9-11, Sheboygan, Wis.
• Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix, September 13-15, Sarasota, Fla.
• St. Petersburg Grand Prix, October 18-20, St. Petersburg, Fla.
Added Powerboat P1 chief executive officer Azam Rangoonwala, “The funding is being provided to guarantee prize money, dedicated technical support, television coverage within our one-hour, post-produced highlights shows as well as guaranteed social media coverage for the class across the P1 Offshore digital channels.”
