Miller To Throttle Class 1 M CON Raceboat—Tomlinson On The Super Cat Sticks—For Shootout Offshore
Throughout the Thunder On Cocoa Beach event May 17-19, post-surgical back pain reminded Tyler Miler, the owner and throttleman for the Class 1 and Super Cat M CON teams, why he needed to be out of the cockpit for the Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 World Championship season-opener and the second event of the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series. Every pang of longing he felt to join driver Myrick Coil in both cockpits was accompanied by pain from his surgery earlier that week.

Miller left Cocoa Beach, Fla., not knowing if he would be ready for cockpit duty in time for the Shootout Offshore event May 30-June 1. Compounding his decision is the event is held on the Lake of the Ozarks—home-water for the M CON team—in Central Missouri.
After meeting with Dr. Michael “Doc” Janssen early last week and talking extensively with his wife, Lindsey, Miller has reached a split decision.
“I’m going to run the Class 1 cat and John Tomlinson will run the Super Cat in Shootout Offshore,” he said. “My theory is the longer running surface of the Class 1 Skater raceboat will make for a smoother ride than I would get in the shorter Super Cat Skater.”
Fans of the Class 1 Monster EnergyM CON team will get to see its Skater catamaran raceboat run on its Lake of the Ozarks home-water—with owner/throtttleman Tyler Miller in the cockpit—this weekend.
Sharing the cockpit with M CON/Monster energy catamaran with driver Myrick Coil, Tomlinson throttled the Super Cat to victory in Cocoa Beach. Throttleman Steve Curtis joined Coil in the cockpit of the Class 1 Monster Energy/M CON raceboat with its new-for-2024 Mercury Racing No. 6 drives, and the first-time cockpit duo finished third.
But Tomlinson won’t throttle the Class 1 Morpheus8 raceboat as per its original plan the team will not compete in Shootout Offshore this season.
