Miller Time At The Lake Of The Ozarks Shootout—10 Years Later
No one—not even his wild-eyed driver Myrick Coil—is more into offshore powerboat racing than Tyler Miller. As any self-respecting fan of the sport knows, the Wathena, Kan., local and his wife, Lindsey, field not one but two offshore racing teams. Miller’s Super Cat-class M CON/Monster Energy team is a world and national champion. His Monster Energy/M CON team is well on its way to claiming a Class 1 world title this season.

But what many, if not most, offshore racing fans tend to forget is that Tyler isn’t the original member of the Miller family in the sport. His cousin, Brett, an orthopedic surgeon, actually got him into it. The Millers raced together for a couple of seasons until a hard spin at the Midwest Challenge Michigan City, Ind., convinced him to leave the sport.
But while Tyler Miller has stuck with it and created something of a Lake of the Ozarks-headquartered offshore racing dynasty, he never fail credits to credit his cousin for leading the way. That happened 10 years ago this weekend during the Shootout.
So Brett Miller is in for the surprise of his life. He’s about to experience driving a 43-foot Class 1 Skater catamaran in the top-speed event with his cousin handling the throttles.

“In the 40-foot Recovery Skater, Brett and I made our first-ever Lake of the Ozarks Shootout run that put my racing dream into motion,” said his forever-grateful-and gracious cousin. “So on this, our 10-year anniversary, we are surprising him with a Shootout pass to commemorate what started it all.
“M CON Racing has come a long way from its inception,” he added. “We will never forget where we came from and where we’ve been together to get to where we are today.”
The run that started it all.
Asked if he ever dreamed that he, rather than Brett, would get so deeply entrenched in a pursuit his cousin introduced him to, Miller laughed.
“Not at all, not at all,” he said. “Brett was the guy always charging, always looking for the next cool thing to do. Even though he decided to get out of racing, he has always been in my corner.”
