How does an offshore racing team’s crew chief and head mechanic, a couple of hilarious dudes who bicker and tease like long-lost brothers, take over the cockpit of a Super Cat-class offshore raceboat? The answer is simple: The team owners are an endlessly gracious and grateful couple who want to thank two of their hardest-working crew members for their efforts.
Captured here during the 2022 Great Lakes Grand Prix in Michigan City, Ind., the Super Cat-class M CON raceboat will compete in the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout with Craig Amptmeyer and Jake Leckliter sharing the cockpit. Photo by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.
The team is M CON, the owners are Tyler and Lindsey Miller of Wathena, Kans., and the crew members are Craig Amptmeyer and Jake Leckliter, who will run the M CON Skater 388 raceboat today in the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri.
Amptmeyer will drive. Leckliter will throttle.
“We’ll probably fight in the cockpit, as usual—we always fight,” Amptmeyer said, then laughed. “But we cannot thank Tyler and Lindsey enough for this opportunity.”
Amptmeyer expects the Sterling Performance engines-powered 38-footer to top out in the “low 130s, high 120s” on the three-quarter-mile course.
“It’s a straight-line competition and, obviously, that’s not what this boat is meant to do, but we’re going to go out there and have some fun,” said Leckliter, who will throttle the cat. “It’s Tyler and Lindsey’s way of saying thank-you to us—and it’s an awesome opportunity.”
