Miller And Coil Honored With Sam Griffith Trophy For Class 1 World Title

The only offshore racers to win four consecutive Super Cat-class national championships, Tyler Miller and Myrick Coil have another achievement to add to their robust list. During the Union Internationale Motonautique Trophy Ceremony and gala banquet last night in Monaco, the Monster Energy/M CON team duo joined the elite ranks of competitors who have their names engraved on the Sam Griffith Trophy for their 2024 UIM Class 1 World Championship.

With UIM-sanctioned Class 1 competition on indefinite pause—the first full Pro Class 1 season under the American Power Boat Association opens in May—Miller and Coil also are likely to be the last racers who will see their names added to the trophy in the foreseeable future.
“I am beyond honored to be recognized among the most prestigious drivers and throttlemen in the world,” said Miller. “To see the Sam Griffith Trophy engraved with ‘Coil and Miller’ left me with a lump in my throat and speechless as it is the icon of powerboat racing.

“To be able to celebrate and share it with my wife, Lindsey, Myrick and his wife, Missi and Myrick will be a memory of a lifetime,” he continued. “The UIM awards gala was first class and we were thrilled to be welcomed with open arms.”
Among those on hand for last night’s affair was Thomas Covington of Powerboat P1, which spearheaded the United States-based return of Class 1 in 2019.
“To have Thomas from P1 by our side and present us the award was icing on the cake,” said Miller. “We are forever humbled.”
