Mercury Marine V-10 400R Outboard-Powered Fountain Center Console To Tackle Gateway Marathon

The first of five contests in the 2023 Ocean Cup series of offshore powerboat endurance races, the 128-mile Gateway Marathon, June 1-4, from West Palm Beach, Fla., to West End, Bahamas, will see a state-of-the-art center console and power package in the form of a 2023 Fountain Powerboats 38SCX equipped with a trio of new 400-hp Mercury Marine V-10 Verado outboard engines.

Simon Williams and Jon Lynch will run this new Fountain 38SCX center console in the upcoming Gateway Marathon.

The 38-footer is owned by Simon Williams, the president and owner of GoGPS USA, Inc., and Shore Thing Storage in Sarasota, Fla. Williams purchased the center console through Cortez Cove Marina and Yacht Sales, a full-service Fountain dealer in Cortez, Fla.

In early February, Williams and his fiancé, Dee Babcock, ran another Fountain 38-foot Fountain center console, that one owned by powered by Mercury Racing 450R outboards and owned by Cortez Cove, from Sarasota to Miami for the Miami International Boat Show. Following the show, he and Babcock tackled the Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Poker Run to Key Largo in the 38-footer before returning to Sarasota. In just five days, the couple had logged more than 700 miles.

Why enter the Gateway Marathon in his new prize?

“I have been to the Bahamas a bunch of times, but no one has ever timed me,” he said, then chuckled. “It seems like it will be fun.”

Cortez Cove owner Jon Lynch will join Williams in center console for the Gateway Marathon. And he lacks no confidence in the boat or its new V-10 outboards.

“I’m expecting a comfortable ride because Fountain builds the world’s best-handling center console and the 400-hp Verado motors are smooth and fast,” he said. “I’m looking forward to an enjoyable morning run with Simon.”
