In the News: Maryland Offshore Skater Eager To Get 2022 ‘Teasers Tour’ Started

Expecting to build upon last year’s successful inaugural poker run tour, Andy Imhof and the team at Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center in Ijamsville, Md., are eager to get back on the water in Imhof’s canopied 36-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran for the “2022 Teasers Tour.”

Imhof and company were planning to begin the tour, which is sponsored by Teasers Gentleman’s Club in Key West, Fla., this weekend with the Maryland Powerboat Club’s Reiter Cup Fun Run in Solomons Island, but the fun run was recently postponed so they’re now expecting the first event of the tour to be the third annual Rockin the Harbor Poker Run in Baltimore (June 24-26).
“We’re very excited about this year’s tour,” Imhof said. “The last time we ran the Skater was New Year’s Eve in Florida so I’m ready to get the boat back out. I also have a new set of superchargers I’m dying to swap out but we’re going to wait until after the first few events here at home to make the modifications so we have some time to test everything.
“The entire tour is possible once again because of the commitment from Teasers owner Dave Johnson,” he continued. “We’re happy to continue to represent Teasers and Dave seems very happy to be part of the fun for a second time.”

Imhof added that the team is planning a seven-stop tour that includes three events in Maryland—Rockin The Harbor, the second annual Tiki Lee’s Shootout On The River (July 15-17) in Sparrows Point, and the 18th annual Thunder In The City (July 22-23) in Chesapeake City—followed by the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri at the end of August.
After the Shootout at Lake of the Ozarks—Maryland Offshore’s “home away from home” being that Imhof co-owns Graphix 1 Custom Paint in Osage Beach with his good friend, Justin Wagner of Waves and Wheels—the Skater will head to North Carolina for the Lookout Shootout Fun Run in Morehead City the weekend after Labor Day. Following that event, which coincides with the Offshore Powerboat Association Crystal Coast Grand Prix (Sept. 8-11), the team will return to Lake of the Ozarks for the Waves and Wheels Fun Run on September 17.
The Maryland Offshore team will then get a bit of a break, which means working hard at the company’s new—but temporary—facility in Ijamsville on customer boats, before wrapping up the Teasers Tour with the biggest event of the season, the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run.
“We had such a blast in Key West last year,” Imhof explained. “It wasn’t just the poker run part either. We participated in the Friday night Race World Offshore street party on Duval Street and we hosted the Maryland Offshore/Teasers VIP party at the club on Thursday night. Both of those parties were incredible so we’re doing them again this year. Teasers is stepping up its sponsorship of the world famous offshore racing world championship event as well so that should make it even more fun.”

Imhof, who said that his team is planning an even bigger presentation in Key West this year (with more details to come), is super excited about how many Maryland Offshore customers are going to join them at different events this season.
“One of the coolest things about this year’s tour is that we have a lot of clients coming with us to the events,” he said. “I think we have seven boats going to Tiki Lee’s. That definitely makes our job at these events a little more challenging because we help move the boats, put them in the water, get them situated and jump on any of them if there’s a problem. At the same time, having so many Maryland Offshore-supported boats there works out good for us because it’s a tool that helps grow the business.
“We have such a great group of customers who make it fun even if we are working,” Imhof added with a laugh. “I can’t wait for people at Tiki Lee’s to see one of our latest projects—a Cigarette 50 Marauder, a triple (Mercury Racing) 1075 boat—that we’ve re-rigged and refit. The guys at Waves and Wheels have it now as we’re doing a new cockpit and dash for the boat. It’s going to be off the hook.”
Like all of the events on the schedule, the Maryland Offshore crew will have the Skater front and center at the docks in Key West with team apparel available for sale. Imhof said that Johnson can’t wait to see all the boats come into town again, primarily because he knows what the annual powerboat gathering means to the community that is very much dependent on tourism dollars.
