For the second year in a row, the organizers of the St. Clair River Classic have secured Magna International—a Canada-based “mobility technology” company serving automobile manufacturers in the electric and autonomous vehicle world—as the title sponsor for the Michigan event. The Offshore Powerboat Association headquartered in New Jersey and the locally based Blue Water Offshore Racing Association are co-producing the July 29-31 contest, which is the fourth of eight stops in the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series.

“Partnerships with the local community are critical to the continued success of our event, as we have re-shaped how the event looks and is produced,” said Steve Brunner, the president of the Blue Water Offshore Racing Association, in a press release issued by the organization this morning. “We are extremely excited about this continued partnership with Magna.”
According to the release, Magna recently completed a new plant in St. Clair and is now supplying battery enclosures for the all-new 2022 GMC Hummer electric vehicle.
“We are thrilled to be able to sponsor such an exciting event that’s within two miles of Magna’s newest manufacturing operation,” said Chris Hinman, the general manager of Magna Electric Vehicle Structures-Michigan. “It’s a great opportunity for us to support the community and potentially attract new and future employees.”
