Maasens Take Delivery Of Renegade Powerboats 38’ Open

Missouri performance boaters—and Lake of the Ozarks dignitaries, if you will—Mark and Tiffany Maasen of Poly Lift Boat Lifts and Maasen Insurance Services took delivery of their new Renegade Powerboats 38’ Open performance center console powered by triple Mercury Racing 400R engines just in time for the late-April Lake of the Ozarks Marine Dealers Association in-water boat show at Dog Days Bar and Grill. And the couple couldn’t be more pleased with the final product.

Ordered through Lake of the Ozarks-based Midwest Boating Center in Kaiser, Mo., and painted by Mark Morris and the team at Visual Imagination in Peculiar, Mo., the new 38-footer is one of the most eye-catching boats built by Manny Oses and the team at Renegade in Hialeah, Fla.

Mark and Tiffany Maasen both said that working with Randy Kent of Midwest Boating Center was a pleasure. They added that Oses and company were also enjoyable to deal with throughout the build process.

“The Renegade team did everything we asked and was a pleasure to work with,” Mark Maasen said, adding that the 38’ Open “checked all the boxes,” including overall performance, rough-water capabilities, user-friendly creature comforts and a 9-foot beam to make trailering more manageable. “I didn’t get to drive it much, basically just from the ramp to the show, but we were able to get some pictures in the process.

“Mark Morris is something else; he’s an amazing talent,” he added. “He killed it with the paintjob. The boat is actually going back to him so he can paint the top to match. Randy also has a few more things on the punch list to handle before we take it home and put in on the lift.”

The Maasens, who are extremely involved with the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, said they plan to use the boat a lot this summer, including at local events such as the Run What You Brung Poker Run prior to Lake Race in early June, the Support Our Troops Poker Run organized by Big Thunder Marine later that month, and the late-August Shootout festivities starting with the Wednesday evening Shootout on the Strip street party. They’re also likely to take the boat to a mid-June event at Table Rock Lake and to the Texoma Throw Down in early August on Lake Texoma.

“I do miss the performance, but I don’t miss the maintenance,” Mark Maasen said when asked if he’s gotten used to “center console boating” after owning a sterndrive-powered Cigarette Racing Team 38-foot V-bottom for several years. “For the point we’re at in our life with our family continuing to grow with significant others, the center console makes sense because we never have to leave anyone at home like we did when we had the Cigarette.”

When asked how he thought the boat turned out, Kent said, “The Maasens are happy and that’s all that matters—but yes, the boat is stunning in person.”

“From the Visual Imagination paint to the night vision and radar system, this is the most loaded boat we have done so far,” Kent added. “It is the first 38 with Renegade’s redesigned hard top bars, which are much beefier. It also has a carbon-fiber top and console, which is now standard. MYCO even built a custom trailer for the boat with a lot of extra features on it. Overall the boat has some very cool touches by everyone involved.”
