Lake Cumberland Thunder Run Opens Registration For Sweet 16 Event
The popular Lake Cumberland Thunder Run on Kentucky’s Lake Cumberland in mid-June is back on the schedule for 2024 and the organizers, who officially opened registration as of this morning, are excited about what’s in store for this year’s sweet 16 celebration.

Taking place June 14-15 at State Dock Marina in Jamestown, Ky., as it has for several years now, the Lake Cumberland Thunder Run is going to have a similar format as previous years according to Tennessee performance boater Justin Lucas, one of the event’s primary organizers.
“We’re expecting another good turnout,” said Lucas, who plans to run Sho’ Nuff, his bright red 36-foot Statement Marine 360 cat, in the event with his wife, Erin. “Last year 72 boats registered for the run, which was a little more enjoyable than having 100-plus boats because it’s easier to manage and socialize. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have more boats this year, but it all depends on weather and water conditions.”
Lucas added that Speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden is back on board for the event photography and that DJ X-Tina is going to be handling the entertainment once again from the party barge stage on Friday and Saturday evening.
“We’re not doing much different this year—any changes we’ve discussed are for things on our end that participants wouldn’t even notice,” Lucas said. “We are thinking of changing the order of stops—based on Pete’s recommendation—to get him more time in the air for photo opportunities before the lunch stop. We have time to figure that out still.”
