Jackhammer Team Claims Second Super Stock National Championship

Set by team-owner vote before the 2024 season began, the Race World Offshore Clearwater Nationals were slated to be the final race of the American Power Boat Association Super Stock-class National Championship points chase. Today’s cancelation of the Clearwater event—read the story—means that the regular Super Stock season has officially ended.

That makes the Jackhammer team of owner/driver Reese Langheim and throttleman Julian Maldonado the APBA 2024 Super National Champions. It is their second national title. The first came in 2022 for the defending Super Stock World Champion duo.

“It’s a shame the Clearwater had to be canceled, but I am glad we put it all together this season,” said Langheim. “Our team worked really hard, and with their effort and support of our families, friends and fans we earned our second national championship.”

In the past three seasons, Jackhammer has earned one world championship and two national championships.

Rounding out the top-for positions for the season are Team Allen duo of throttlemen Bill Allen and driver Randy Keys in second place, the Team Bermuda/GL Construction outfit of throttleman Steven Bridges and driver David Selley in third and the Atlas/DoublEdge Motorsports team of veteran throttleman Ryan Beckley and rookie driver Connor Toomey in fourth.

The Super Stock owners voted today against replacing Clearwater Nationals with next month’s St. Petersburg Grand Prix in their series.

“The class vote was not to go St. Pete, ‘call it a day’ and start fresh with the Key West World Championships,” said Beckley, the Super Stock owners representative.”

The Super Stock class routinely attracted the largest fields of any class in the sport.

Beckley added that he is proud of his team’s fourth-place result in class that regularly saw 11 to 13 teams competing.

“Nobody would have bet at the beginning of the season that we would end up where we did,” he said. “Connor did a phenomenal job in the boat. I love racing with him.”
