Inside The Team M CON Kilo Run Experience – Speed on the Water
Sunday at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout can be hit or miss, especially if Saturday’s marquee performances leave nothing on the table. That’s at least part of the reason Sunday’s spectator fleet for the Central Missouri top-speed contest typically is a fraction of that of the Saturday flotilla.
Such was the case, for example, with American Ethanol this year. During its first run last Saturday, the 51-foot Mystic Powerboats catamaran piloted by John Cosker and Tony Battiato hit an astounding 214 mph.

On the other hand, Factory Billet delivered a sub-par performance on Saturday yet gained “world’s fastest V-bottom status” with its 184-mph pass on Sunday.. And fans who stuck around had something else to enjoy after last Sunday’s action, as the first kilometer runs sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association/Union Internationale Motonautique followed day No. 2 of the Shootout, though not without the growing pains inherent in any first-year kilo event.
Among the teams that ran the kilo course were the Class 1 Monster Energy/M CON and Super Cat-class M CON/Monster Energy outfits. What’s more, they set a pair of still-pending-final-verification APBA/UIM kilo records. In the team’s 43-foot Class 1 Skater Powerboats catamaran, owner/throttleman Tyler Miller and driver Myrick Coil of Performance Boat Center established a new kilo mark of 145.75 mph.
They also set a new kilo mark of 140.55 mph in their 38-foot Super Cat-class Skater.
“Buckling in knowing your running for a sanctioned world record in front of the hometown crowd brought an elevated level of pressure and adrenaline,” said Miller. “To have both the APBA and UIM on hand to certify the kilo runs coupled with the amazing Lake Of The Ozarks Shootout staff was phenomenal.

“Myrick and I had discussed our mile-long run-up several times to try to make the perfect run and felt we did just that,” he continued. “That was the most nerve racking part. By the time your brain tells your body to take a deep breath, your through the traps of the kilo and going out the back chute.”
For Miller, Coil, sponsor Monster Energy and the entire M CON racing team, it was the perfect ending to an exceptional Shootout week.
“I woke up yesterday morning and had coffee with my kids Bentlee and Barrett and said, ‘Can you believe this team from Wathena, Kansas has two world record?” he added. “It still doesn’t seem real.”
