Inside Stephen Miles Design—Crypto II And More – Speed on the Water
Without hesitation, Stephen Miles will tell you that Crypto—an Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats SV 43 he painted in the 2018—was the most complex project he’s ever tackled. The canopied 43-footer was originally was commissioned by a couple of friends in Canada. Now it’s owned by Mitch Rudolph of Ohio.
An open-cockpit 52-footer, Crypto II is going to the same current owner of the canopied 43-foot version.
Also owned by Rudolph, Crypto II, an open-cockpit SL 50 bottom from the Bristol, R.I., company currently is being dressed at Miles’ shop in Owensboro, Ky. Once finished, it will be delivered to Outerlimits headquarters for interior installation and rigging. The graphics project has been a long time in the works, according to Miles.
“Mitch is an amazing—and patient—gentleman,” said Miles. “He still has the original Crypto.”
This 37-foot Outerlimits catamaran is the owner’s first go-fast boat.
On the smaller side of paintjobs in progress at Stephen Miles Design is that of an Outerlimits SC 37 catamaran for a Kentucky-based customer. Miles met him through a mutual friend during the Kuttawa Cannonball Run, and they hit it off.
“He’s a super-cool client and this is his first performance boat,” he said. “We’ve been a bit backed up at the shop, but he was dead-set on an SMD paintjob and willing to wait as long as it took to have one.
The work never stops at Stephen Miles Design.
“That’s such an honor,” he added. “And obviously, it’s very humbling.”
