If you’re new to next month’s Lake Champlain Poker Run in Vermont—and registration is still open for the outstanding event if you haven’t already signed up—you’ll likely bump into Chris Fisher. One of the event’s founders and organizers, he’s a gregarious guy with a mischievous, desert-dry sense of humor and a giant heart.

Under no circumstances should you miss meeting him.

He also happens to be the ecstatic new owner of a DCB Performance Marine M37R catamaran, and the 37-footer was part of this weekend’s 90-plus-boat 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run fleet in Clayton, N.Y. He’s had a boat in every fleet since the event began in 2017.

For Fisher, who was joined by his longtime lovely, Christy Foote, the 1,000 Islands run was the second event he’s enjoyed in the Mercury Racing 450R outboard engine-powered cat. The first was Hartwell Lake Charity Run last month in South Carolina.

After yesterday’s run, he described his new prize as a “15 out of 10.”

“We bought the right boat from the right people at the right time,” he said. “It’s a ton of fun. The Fisher Cat loves to run with the big dogs.”

Come August 18-19 at the Lake Champlain Poker Run, the Fisher Cat will run with the big dogs again. And like Fisher’s DCB, the event is a 15 out of 10.
