Image Of The Week: Weekday At Danny’s – Speed on the Water
Bonded by their mutual love of Skater catamarans, speed on the water and giving each other grief, Danny DeSantis and Ron Szolack are among the most engaging characters in the go-fast boating community. And when they’re both in South Florida on a weekday, which happens often this time of year, they get together for lunch.
Thanks to their mutual love of speed on the water, Danny DeSantis and Ron Szolack have been close friends for years.
Of course, they go by boat.
Szolack campaigned for to DeSantis to take his 80-foot yacht for yesterday’s short lunch run in West Palm Beach—he’s a skinny dude who hates the cold and the temperature was an icy 65 degrees—but DeSantis opted for his Cigarette 41 Nighthawk center console.
DeSantis and Szolack got close through Skaterfest, an annual celebration of the brand in the St. Clair, Mich., area. Now that his home at the Lake of the Ozarks is complete, Szolack vows to bring the event—renamed Weekend At Ronnie’s—to the Central Missouri waterway in mid- to late-September.
Schedule allowing, DeSantis will be there with his Skater 426 catamaran.
For a reporter on a six-day roadtrip to Florida’s east and western shores, lunch with Danny DeSantis, Ron Szolack their significant others was a welcome break.
“I’ll check with you before I put anything on the calendar,” Szolack told his friend.
Szolack, who currently owns 11 boats—all for sale as usual except for the 38-foot Chris-Craft he keeps in South Florida—has no idea what he’ll run that September weekend. He has several Skaters to choose from and the event is a long way off.
And in the meantime, there was lunch to have with one of his best friends.
