Image Of The Week—Perfectly Composed At Super Cat Fest West

A generally easygoing guy, photographer Tom Leigh takes his craft seriously. Leigh is a true pro and it shows in his work, especially when it comes to photo composition.

Though there’s no such thing as a perfectly composed image, this one comes close. Photo by Tom Leigh copyright Tommy Gun Images.
How a photographer sees and frames an image through his lens, how he or she finds compelling perspectives, angles and settings often makes the difference between a good photo and a great one. It takes talent and effort.
Take this shot of the latest DCB Performance Marine M42R catamaran captured at sunset during last weekend’s Super Cat Fest West event in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. The most coveted 60 minutes in powerboat photography, the soft, dusky light of “Golden Hour” was long gone. Leigh could have taken a snapshot of the latest 42-footer from the Phoenix-based company and called it a day.
Instead, he went to work. Leigh, who was the official event photographer for Super Cat Fest West, found an unusual angle that blends the natural elements of clear water and fading desert sunlight with manmade, custom-catamaran perfection.
