Image Of The Week: Mr. Jones Joins The Center-Console Club
It was only a matter of time until Stu Jones bought a center console. The Florida Powerboat Club head does more than a little boating throughout the year, and more often than not he needs space for a crowd. His beloved Cigarette 38 Top Gun V-bottom called Top Gun Flight 1130 has just six seats, and only two that you’d actually care to occupy in rough water.

So Jones turned to the team at Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats for his most recent ride, a 390 Sport center console powered by triple Mercury Racing 400R outboard engines and dubbed the Florida Powerboat Club Poker Run Support Boat. As previously reported, the 39-footer debuted last week at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and is 390 Sport No. 500 for the Cape Coral, Fla., company.
Jones originally planned to run his new prize with the Tuesday departure group for the club’s Key West Poker Run, and I was supposed to go with him. But the boat didn’t get out of the Fort Lauderdale show move-out gridlock in time so we took the 38-foot Cigarette instead. And we had a fine old-time, though I got my pores blasted clean with saltwater.
Performance-boating “purists” decrying Jones’ move to a center console, take heart. He has no plans to sell the Cigarette.
Though Jones originally planned to run his new Nor-Tech center console to Key West Tuesday, getting it out of last week’s Fort Lauderdale event took longer than expected.
