Image Of The Week: Into The Key West Blue With DCB – Speed on the Water

For many years, you rarely spied a DCB Performance Marine creation beyond Lake Havasu and other Colorado River-fed, desert-surrounded waterways out West. You might spot the occasional F-Series catamaran or Extreme V-bottom east of the Mississippi, but those sightings were uncommon at best.

Though Grant Bernardy’s gorgeous DCB M37R Widebody catamaran was the first 37-footer photographer Pete Boden has captured in Key West, Fla., it surely won’t be the last. Photo by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

Those days are gone, and much of the credit belongs to the outboard engine-powered M37R Widebody, the now Phoenix-based company’s first dedicated full-tunnel catamaran. You can find those impeccable 37-footers in Upstate New York thanks to owner Ken and Renee Lalonde. Head to Lake Champlain in Vermont and you’ll catch Chris Fisher and his girlfriend, Christy Foote, running an M37R he purchased from its original owner. Drop down to South Florida and you’ll spot Yvonne Aleman and Greg Harris running Mad Props, a colorful 37-footer they’ve taken to events all over the country.

Want to catch one in the Midwest, say in South Bend, Ind.? Check out Cowboy & Indian, an M37R co-owned by locals Kiran and Jessica Pinisetti and Upstate New York dairy farmers Kelly and Julie O’Hara?

Heck, if you happened to be in Key West, Fla., last week for the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run and Race World Offshore World Championship presented by Performance Boat Center, you probably saw one tearing through Key West Harbor and into the Atlantic Ocean and beyond. Dubbed WaveMaker and owned by Minnesota’s Grant Bernardy, that 37-footer will “winter” in the Sunshine State with Bernardy and his fiancé, Katie Landwehr.

As you can see from the image above, speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden didn’t miss it. And it was the first time we’ve ever captured an M37R in Key West.

But truth be told? They’re getting easier and easier to find—across the country.
