The name conjures up images of exciting long-distance travel, always in comfort, style and safety. With a distinctive profile, these extended cruisers/live-aboards are clearly recognizable and greatly admired. And as the brand-new GB85 hits the water, a new chapter in the iconic company’s history will begin.
“We had one primary objective above all when we started the 85,” says CEO Mark Richards, “to deliver the most fuel-efficient, high-speed, long-range cruiser of this size.”
Running on a lengthened version of a proprietary V-Warp hull designed by Richards in partnership with naval architect Andy Dovell, her fine entry flares amidships, which, according to the company, rolls the seas away from the yacht.
On the construction side, achieving maximum rigidity and strength while paying special attention to optimizing weight and balance is achieved with vacuum-infused E-glass, carbon fiber in structural areas, Corecell and Airex foam, stitched multiaxial fabric and 100% vinyl ester resin. The result is the exact ratio of resin to material.
“After running the 85, we can state that yet again, we’ve moved to an entirely different level,” Richards continues.
Of course, there is her interior. With signature superbly fashioned hand-crafted teak woodwork, detail, and fine fit and finish in each space, whether in the expansive main salon, fully found galley and dining space, or in any of the sumptuous staterooms, you will find yourself in the breathtaking surroundings of a Grand Banks design. The 22-foot beam allows for spacious accommodations below, including crew quarters.
Whether you choose the Skylounge or Open Bridge configuration, your Grand Banks 85 will be a personal statement of ownership.
