Glueck Returning To Offshore Racing With Oliveri Construction Team
Well-known and widely respected throttleman Billy Glueck will join OC Offshore Racing team owner/driver Joe Oliveri in the Bracket 200-class outfit’s 39-foot Phantom V-bottom this season. Glueck, who most recently competed in the Extreme V class—now Super V under the American Power Boat Association umbrella—has been out of the sport 2018-2019. But he couldn’t resist teaming up with his good friend and fellow Sarasotan.

“I didn’t know if I’d ever race again, but I like Joey and I like all the people around the team,” Glueck explained. “To me, it’s all about the people I’m racing with. If you’re not having fun, it’s not worth doing.”
Asked how he coaxed Glueck back to the offshore racecourse, Oliveri, who owns Sarasota-based Oliveri Construction, laughed.
“You know, that was a hard one,” he said. “Billy and I have been friends for years and we have always played around in boats. My throttleman, Chris Vollison, got hurt in the second race of the (Race World Offshore) Key West World Championships last year, and he’s not ready to come back. So I started bugging Billy. I said, ‘Billy, come racing with me, it’ll be a good time. All you have to do is show up and throttle.’
In addition to Glueck, OC Offshore Racing has two new backers this season.
“Of course, Billy being Billy he’ll do more than that,” he added. “He takes racing very seriously.”
Glueck isn’t the only new addition to OC Offshore Racing. Landshark Lager and Nutrl hard-seltzer are joining returning backer Shore Thing Storage as sponors this season.
Said Glueck, who throttled the Twisted Metal Fountain V-bottom for years, “If you’re not having fun, it’s not worth doing.”
