Starting tomorrow, the Texoma Throw Down and the community of performance boaters that support the event on Lake Texoma, are expecting to take it up a notch for the fifth anniversary of the fun run started by U.S. Air Force veteran Casey Moore on the lake that borders Texas and Oklahoma.

With increased support from this year’s title sponsor—Freeman Marine Sales in Kingston, Okla.—the event includes a Thursday evening street party at the Freeman Marine Sales location at 7142 HWY 70B. Starting at 6:15 p.m., there will be live music and free food and beer for poker run participants. An after party at Barbay, the full-service bar located at the poker run host location, Marina Del Rey, also is on the schedule.

“We’re excited to sponsor this year’s Texoma Throw Down and looking forward to having a ‘mini street party’ to hang out with many of our customers and all of the other participants coming into town for the event,” said Casey Freeman, the veteran salesman in the retail marine business who opened Freeman Marine Sales during the pandemic and grew up boating on Lake Texoma. “I’m eager to see the turnout for Friday’s beach party and the poker run on Saturday. I have a feeling this year is going to be a lot of fun.”

Among the boats that are going to be on display tomorrow night at Freeman Marine Sales is the Team Woody raceboat, a 35-foot Fountain Powerboats canopied V-bottom owned by Texas-based Billy Shipley and Chad Woody. Shipley and Woody have been regular attendees of the event since it started.

“We always have fun at the Texoma Throw Down,” said Shipley, who just wrapped up back-to-back racing weekends in St. Clair, Mich., and Michigan City, Ind. “Even last year, when it was raining, we had a great time. It’s cool that they’ve added the street party. We’ll be there with our sponsor, Bill Picot and Knockout Grime. We’re excited to see everyone out there and to get to do some pleasure boating. We don’t get to do that nearly enough.”

According to Moore, registration is on pace with past years and is still open online—it also will be available at the event on Thursday and Friday. Between luxurious center consoles and high-performance catamarans, Moore said he’s can’t wait to see all the cool boats that show up for the run, which benefits Mission 22, a non-profit organization that provides treatment programs to veterans for Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury and other issues they might be facing in hopes of combating the ever-rising veteran suicide rate.

Moore added that for the first time during the Burgers in Paradise lunch at the islands on Friday there is going to be a live DJ for everyone to listen to sponsored by Seth Wadly.

“We’re asking everyone to back up to the islands on the west side and enjoy,” Moore explained on the Texoma Powerboat Association Facebook page. “The DJ is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m., but the music will keep going as long as people are having a good time.”

Moore said the live music starts at 9 p.m. on Friday night at Barbay and that participants will meet back at Barbay for the drivers’ meeting on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. to go over the route and safety before heading out in group formations starting at 11 a.m. After the run, which includes several lunch stop options, a raft up at the islands is planned followed by the dinner and awards party—card tables open at 5 p.m. for everyone start playing their chips at Barbay. As he’s done in past years, Moore has a local business lined up to handle rehydration IVs all weekend long to keep everyone feeling great.
