Fourth Time A ‘New’ Charm For Bernardy At 29th Annual DCB Owners Regatta – Speed on the Water

By the time you read this story, there’s a good chance that Minnesota’s Grant Bernardy, his fiancé, Katie Landwehr and their dear friends, Mindy and Corey Ciseski from Wisconsin, might still be soaking in the scenery at the Pirate Cove Resort on the shores of the Colorado River in Needles, Calif. Earlier today, Bernardy took delivery of a new DCB Performance Marine M37R Widebody catamaran he co-designed with Landwehr and the two couples joined the DCB Owners Regatta fleet for the run to the popular destination up-river from Lake Havasu.

Grant Bernardy, his fiancé, Katie Landwehr, and their friends, Mindy and Corey Ciseski, enjoyed the ride to Pirate Cove Resort in Bernardy’s new 37-foot DCB catamaran.

Though the M37R dubbed WaveMaker is Bernardy’s fourth creation from the now Phoenix-based company, it is his first new build. Prior to taking delivery of the 37-foot full-tunnel cat, Bernardy owned F-29 and F-32 DCB cats before purchasing a pre-owned M37R powered by Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines.

His new prize is equipped with Mercury Racing 500R outboard engines. It is the third 37-footer from the company to be powered by the most potent outboards in the Fond du Lac, Wis., high-performance marine engine and accessories company’s line.

Rhapsody in blue—and white—in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

“I love it,” Bernardy said. “There’s not a lot of change on the top-end with the bigger power, but there is so much more power all the way through the operating range.

“This boat is totally loaded,” he continued. “We got the eight-seat cockpit, a sick stereo system and had the upholstery done with a blend of Alcantara and more CoolTouch vinyl to mix it up. My last boat was red, but I’m a blue-and-white guy so it’s nice to be back to those colors.”

The current view for Bernardy and company at Pirate Cove does not lack for DCB creations.

Bernardy paused to scan the docks at Pirate Cove Resort. “There are like 70 DCBs here,” he said. “It’s incredible.”

That said, he definitely has the newest one.

“Being able to deliver the boat to Grant in time for the Owners Regatta was a pleasure,” said Jeff Johnston, the president of DCB. “He’s a big part of the DCB family, and the family is here.”

Flanked by DCB’s Tony Chiaramonte and Jeff Johnston, Grant Bernardy took delivery of his M37R Widebody catamaran just in time for the company’s 29th annual Owners Regatta.

Bernardy plans to keep the boat in Florida this winter. Next up for him and Landwehr with the new M37R is the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run early next month.

The boat’s eight-seat interior lacks for nothing.

“I think we may just run down to Gilbert’s in Key Largo on Wednesday and come back up to Miami so we can run down with the group on Thursday,” he said. “I’m not sure.”

There’s no point in deciding now. Bernardy and company still have the rest of this fine day to enjoy.

Said Bernardy, “There is so much more power all the way through the operating range.”
