Four Horsemen Poker Run Sitting Pretty With 52 Entries And Heavy Outerlimits Presence

Despite its proximity to Mercury Racing and Mercury Marine, Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh, Wis., is not a hotbed of go-fast boating events. The exception to this, of course, is the annual Four Horsemen Poker Run, which is on tap this weekend with 52 boats registered and a heavy contingent of custom-beauties from Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats including Don Verkuylen’s SL 52, Sweetwater Performance Center And Marina owner Jason Lindemann’s 50-foot Gold Digger catamaran, David Weschler’s SV 52 and Vinnie Diorio’s new SC 37 catamaran.

The Four Horsemen Poker Run will be the first event for Diorio, who lives in Wisconsin and took second place at the Lake Race on the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri last weekend in the Super Cat class, in his new 37-footer from the Bristol, R.I., The boat is powered by Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines.

“It’ll be nice to take a short break from racing,” he said. “And it will be great to have a weekend with all of our friends.

“But I can’t wait to get back on the racecourse in Sarasota (Fla.),” he added, then laughed.

Gary Swanson, the general manager of the Lindemann-owned Sweetwater Performance Center and Dockside Tavern host-venues, said a number of would-be entrants were unable to sign up as they are still waiting on backlogged engine parts.

“A few people who can’t make the run are coming socialize anyway,” he said. “It’s been hard with parts issues—a lot of guys are waiting on engines to come back from rebuilders for well over a year.

“But the event is looking good,” he continued. “Registration is officially closed as we have ordered shirts and food, but we would still probably let in a participant or two.”

Speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden will be on hand to capture all of the action from the event, which begins Friday.

In its event debut, Vinnie Diorio’s SC 37 catamaran (above at TNT Custom Marine in early 2022) will be one of a slew of Outerlimits creations on Lake Winnebago this weekend.
