Fountain, Donzi And Glasstream/GSX Out For Miami Boat Show

Headquartered in Washington, N.C., Fountain Powerboats has long supported the Miami International Boat Show, which is set for February 12-16 this year. Long ago, company founder Reggie Founder, Jr., even had autograph sessions that attracted long lines during the annual event. But the venerable brand of high-performance center consoles and sportboats, as well as its sister Donzi Marine brand will not be exhibiting in Miami this year.

Citing costs and logistical challenges on participating in the five-day South Florida exhibit, Dennis Radcliffe, Fountain’s vice-president of sales and marketing, confirmed the decision via telephone this morning.

“But we are planning on participating in the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show later this year,” said Radcliffe.

Fountain and Donzi among the latest performance-oriented powerboat companies to sit out the Miami show this year. Likewise, Mystic Powerboats and Skater Powerboats will once again skip Miami in favor of other showcases throughout the year.

Kruis Retherford, the owner of Glasstream/GSX Powerboats in Dothan, Ala., also confirmed today that her company also will not be participating.

Glasstream/GSX also is passing on the Miami event this year.

“The time, stress and enormous amount of money that go into exhibiting in Miami have become too much for the return,” said Retherford, echoing a common sentiment in the high-performance-marine segment. “I am so relieved we made this decision.”
