Fort Myers Offshore Naples Run Already A Record-Setter—With A Week To Go

As anyone who knows the Fort Myers Offshore crowd can tell you, chances of the Miami International Boat Show, which opens next Wednesday, tempting club members to skip their Saturday, February 15 run to the Naples Hyatt House were nil. And, as if to prove that point, an event record-setting 56 members have already signed up.

That doesn’t beat last year’s event-record of 55 registered members by much, of course. Then again, there are six days to go before the group departs from its standard Sanibel Island Bridge starting point.

“This run usually attracts 30-ish boats,” said Tim Hill, the president of the nonprofit scholarship fundraising organization. “We had 35 registered in the first fours of registration.”

Hill paused and laughed. He knows that record-setting participation is a high-class problem, but also understands—better than most—the issues of dock-space capacity at Southwest Florida venues.

“We have 56 boats,” he added, then chuckled again. “And a week to go.”

Dock space will be a challenge next weekend, but the Fort Myers Offshore members always manage to make it work.
