Florida Powerboat Club/Speed On The Water Miami Bash To Benefit Local Charity
Always game to support events that benefit worthy charities, Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats was quick to grab the title sponsor role for the upcoming second-year Florida Powerboat Club/Speed On The Water Miami Boat Show Bash set for February 16 at the Sagamore Hotel in South Beach. But naturally, the first question from Trond Schou and his team at the Cape Coral, Fla., company was, “So who are we raising money for?”

Our response was simple. “We have no freaking idea. You folks choose.”
And in short order thanks to the legwork of the Nor-Tech people, the Miami Kiwanis Youth Foundation got the nod.
But rather than interrupt the Friday celebration flow with a live charity auction—one a year in Key West, Fla., is all speedonthewater.com co-publisher Jason Johnson and I can handle—or any form of on-scene fundraising, the teams at Florida Powerboat Club, Speedonthewater.com and Nor-Tech have a less-intrusive solution.
Donate days before the party starts.
Here’s how: The Miami Kiwanis Youth Foundation has established a GoFundMe campaign.
So we’re asking would-be party-goers, meaning Florida Powerboat Club members in good standing and special invited guests, to donate to the organization ahead of the celebration.
There is no minimum donation to the fund, but we ask that each guest who plans to attend hop online between now and February 16 and contribute $100. That’s a low barrier to entry, so to speak, for any evening affair at a swanky South Beach venue, especially during the Miami International Boat Show.
And if you’re interested in winning something great, though we’re not sure what that great thing is just yet, bring your receipt with you to the Sagamore venue.
The largest donation wins the grand prize, which we’ll announce on party morning.
Additional backers of the 2024 Florida Powerboat Club currently include supporting sponsors GSX/Glasstream Powerboats, Statement Marine, Waves and Wheels, and Wozencraft Insurance Agency.
