For the balance of 2023, Stu Jones of the Florida Powerboat Club gets to drop the event organizing and production reins. The club’s 30th Key West Poker Run—held earlier this month—is successfully in the books despite challenges created by sub-tropical storm Nicole. But his work for the year is far from complete as Jones will spend much of the next five weeks in the video editing studio helping to create new episodes from the Key West happening.

Following the Key West happening, the club quietly released its 2023 schedule. The event roster includes Florida Powerboat Club staples, from the February 23-25 Miami Boat Show Poker Run to the season finale, November 7-13, in Key West. For members who want to enjoy the Bahamas next year, the club offers two events: the 32nd annual Bahamas Poker Run, June 8-13, followed by the Bahamas Summer Blast set for August 8-16.
Returning stateside events include the aforementioned Miami Boat Show Poker Run, the March 16-19 Spring Key West Poker Run, the April 13-16 Tampa Poker Run, Orange Beach Powerboat Week May 11-13 and the 31st annual Emerald Coast Powerboat Week set for September 20-24.
“The 2023 event schedule has been coming together little by little starting last summer and through the fall,” Jones explained. “We kind of piece it together as the contracts are finalized with hotels and with marinas. That said, the schedule is not official until November 15, the day after the Key West Poker Run.”
Scheduled for January 27-29, the club’s Winter Fun Run to Key Largo will be first event of the 2023 Florida Powerboat Club season. Registration is open.
Said Jones, “Currently, we are taking registrations but are not processing any event fees. We try to keep the accounting according to our fiscal year, which begins in January.”
With July free from Florida Powerboat Club events, Jones and his wife, Jackie, will take their 38-foot Cigarette Racing Team sportboat—recently repowered with twin Mercury Racing 565 engines and renamed Project 1130—on their traditional “Summer Poker Run Tour.”
“We’ll be bringing the Project 1130 Cigarette to events around the country,” he said. “We’re already looking forward to it.”
