First Deep Impact Bahamas Owners Adventure A Slam Dunk
When it comes to planning and executing group runs from South Florida to the Bahamas, no organizer in the go-fast boating world has more experience and success than Florida Powerboat Club head Stu Jones. Jones has been at it for more than 30 years. This summer alone, he’s produced two Bahamas runs for club members and has another scheduled for next weekend.
So when Plantation Boat Mart owners Dennis and Brianna Delatorre needed someone to shepherd 11 Deep Impact center console owners, their families and their guests for the first Deep Impact Owners Run to the Bahamas last weekend, Jones and his team were a natural and easy choice.

“We enjoyed a robust itinerary that featured Bimini, Chub Cay and the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island,” said Jones, who is finalizing the details for next weekend’s event. “Plus, we took plenty of day-trips from the Atlantis to local islands.”
From the start, the event had its own special flare. Rather than staying on Bimini for a couple of days, the 60-participant group went there to clear customs, have lunch and feed an underwater flock of friendly stingrays in Honeymoon Harbor before moving on to Chub Cay for the night.
“Our visit to Chub Cay was bittersweet,” Jones said. “Everyone enjoys that destination for sure, and the Deep Impact group loved it. But the island is going private in 2025 with a very inflated membership fee. That makes it unlikely that visiting boaters will be able to visit this island in the coming years.”
Paradise found.
High-performance marine insurance and finance man Devin Wozencraft left his own 34-foot Victory catamaran in Vermont, where he’s storing it in advance next weekend’s Lake Champlain Poker Run— and added the event to his already packed summer tour and joined the group. The trek, particularly the stop at Chub Cay proved more than worth the effort, he said.
Conditions from Coconut Grove to Bimini were as docile as they get.
“Chub Cay was so incredible that I and many others wanted to stay longer,” Wozencraft said. “But the following day, the group headed to Nassau where we enjoyed the incredible facilities at the Atlantis Resort and Casino.
“The camaraderie among Deep Impact owners and their friends was incredible,” he continued. “The trip also provided everyone a better chance to get to know Dennis and Brianna Delatorre of Plantation Boat Mart, much better.”
The first Deep Impact owners run to the Bahamas surely won’t be the last.
Of course, no Bahamas experience would be complete without a least a bit of mean water to cross. The 200-mile homeward leg of the Deep Impact run delivered it.
“While the planned return trip was scheduled for Sunday, a number of the teams did not return back to Miami until late Monday and some not until Tuesday,” Jones said, then sighed and chuckled. “As always, mother nature gets to play the last card.”
