Featured Boat: 2008 Fountain 47 Lightning

Offered by Big Thunder Marine at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri, this 2008 model-year Fountain Powerboat 47 Lightning V-bottom is powered by 1,200-hp engines with Whipple superchargers. Originally from Mercury Racing, the engines were upgraded to their current power-output by Mark Boos or Precision Marine and have 100 operating hours since their updates, according to the listing. The power-and-propulsion package includes new BAM transmissions, recently rebuilt No. 6 drives and 1,200-hp Mercury Racing CNC 37″-pitch six-blade propellers.

The boat’s engine compartment, which includes a Westerbeke generator, is equipped with a digital video camera for monitoring operation. For easier docking, the V-bottom is equipped with a bow thruster.

Mitcher T handled the 47-footer’s custom paintwork. Features in its recently updated cockpit include a Garmin GPS unit, a Mercury VesselView monitor, Gaffrig instruments, an intercom system and power drop-out-bottom bolsters. The boat’s substantial cabin is equipped with a galley that includes a sink and Vacu-Flush head.
