Featured Boat: 2002 36-Foot ‘Bacardi Silver’ Skater Catamaran

If you’ve always wanted to own a piece of offshore racing history, now is your chance to purchase the legendary Bacardi Silver, a 36-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran, from the team at Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center. Yeah the same boat that garnered much attention in Matt Trulio’s recent Skater At 50 feature.

The multi-time national- and world-championship-winning boat not only dominated the racing scene for several years, it also captured the national spotlight on the Today Show with Matt Lauer in 2003. As a test bed for Sterling Performance’s twin 1,700-hp turbocharged engines, Bacardi Silver achieved a speed of 195 mph at the 2013 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Missouri with throttleman John Tomlinson and driver Myrick Coil in the cockpit on the former one-mile course.
Now equipped with twin 1,100/1,650-hp motors, the Skater runs at impressive speeds in the mid-180s on the 1,100-hp tune, with even more potential waiting to be unleashed, according to Maryland Offshore Performance’s Mitch Kramer. He said the turn-key boat is ready to hit the water with unparalleled performance.
The 36-footer features a Huber 1550 dry-sump transmission with optional—at an additional cost—SCS crash boxes, and it comes on a Skater triple-axle trailer. The tanks have been upgraded at Skater, and the entire boat has been meticulously re-rigged by Kramer and the crew at Maryland Offshore Performance.
Aggressively priced at $299,000, there’s no doubt this masterpiece is a testament to engineering excellence and racing heritage with a top speed of 213 mph and multiple record-breaking achievements.
