DCB M42R Catamaran Update: Out Of Post-Lamination And Off To Rigging

Slated for a 2024 release, the first DCB Performance Marine M42R catamaran is currently in the Phoenix company’s rigging department for installation of its Mercury Racing 500R outboard engines and assorted hardware. The DCB team completed post-lamination gelcoat work for the 42-footer earlier this week and immediately moved it along to the rigging crew.

“The rigging team wasted no time getting it set exactly where they wanted it and covered with protective film,” explained Johnny Bauer, DCB’s vice president of production. “They carefully laid out all the cleats and fender-pin locations, as well as the engine brackets.

“I don’t think you could put as many holes in that boat with a shotgun as fast as they did,” he added then laughed.

Interior work is continuing simultaneously. “The interior department has installed all the headliner that is customary for DCB in any area that can be regularly seen,” Bauer said. “All panels are finished, seats are trimmed and foamed. At present, they are waiting for their covers as they are being patterned and sewn.”

Details, details.

Bauer also reported solid progress on M42R hull No. 2. The deck is complete and the hull currently is being laid up. Details of the second build include an exposed carbon-fiber tunnel-top with a DCB logo in gelcoat. Both will be visible when the boat is displayed on its tilt trailer from MYCO Trailers.

Bauer and company beyond the lamination group, however, currently are focused on hull No. 1.

“It’s special to see this first M42R at this stage, but it’s extra special to see all departments contributing in a timely fashion to keep this project on target,” he said. “The pride from everyone involved with this project is visible and noticeable.”

The first M42R catamaran looks like a real boat at this point.
