DCB M42R Catamaran Update—Interior Time
The next major stages in the build of the first DCB Performance Marine M42R catamaran, post-lamination and interior construction are underway at the Phoenix-based company. As previously reported, the 42-footer is slated for completion this year.
Two different elements of the M42R catamaran build process—interior fabrication and post-lamination gelcoat work—will happen simultaneously.
“The wood-shop team will relinquish it to the post-lamination gelcoat team this morning,” said Johnny Bauer, DCB’s vice president of production. “Upholstery will take about six weeks total and will be done while the hull is getting half-capped, color-sanded and buffed. As the boat transitions out of post-lamination gelcoat to rigging, the interior team will have about one week of finalizing small panels.”
Inner and outer shells comprise the bucket seats.
While the interior group is installing upholstery for the inner shells of the seat bases, the outer shells will go to post-lamination for final polishing. Once the riggers install seat-back lighting in the backs of the outer shells, they will marry the upholstered and foamed inner shells to their outer counterparts. SeaDek and seat-base installation follow.
When complete, the 42-footer will offer usable—key word—seating for eight.
“Seats are always the last thing installed,” Bauer explained. “But all of the other panels will be installed as the boat is being rigged.”
The 42-foot, full-tunnel catamaran will be powered by twin Mercury Racing 500R outboard engines.
The methodical build-process continues.
