DCB M37R Cat Is ‘Top Of The Food Chain’ For Poker-Run Organizer

If you’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy the Lake Champlain Poker Run based in Burlington, Vt., you know Chris Fisher. Along with fellow local organizers Nicole Carlson, Brian Hoar and David Wulfson, he produces the annual event benefitting Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, a locally based nonprofit organization that serves children with cancer. The event, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary, is set for August 18-19.

You also likely remember Fisher’s 2007 Donzi Marine 38 ZR V-bottom, which he sold late last year. But Fisher and his lovely longtime significant other, Christy Foote, will be running their new-to-them DCB Performance Boats M37R Widebody catamaran this time around in Champlain. Earlier today, they campaigned the Mercury Racing 450R engine-powered 37-footer in the Hartwell Lake Charity Run in South Carolina. They were joined by their friend, Chad Shutter of BRP Marine Customs in Denver, N.C.

Fisher took delivery of the cat at the Desert Storm Poker Run in late April. The following month, he and Foote ran it in the Smith Mountain Lake Poker Run in Virginia. Knowing they’d be returning for this weekend’s Hartwell Lake affair, he left the boat with Shutter at his North Carolina facility.

Built originally for DCB client Jason Jackson, Fisher’s M37R had 28 operating hours when he purchased it through the El Cajon, Calif., company. It is the Vermonter’s second catamaran. His first was a 30-foot Spectre.

Ahead of the Champlain event, Fisher and Foote left their 37-footer at BRP Marine Customs in North Carolina.

“They’re not in the same class—they’re not even in the same litter,” he said, then laughed. “The DCB is at the top of the food chain.

“We did the run in 1 hour and 47 minutes today,” he added. “I think we probably have 35 hours on it now.”

Next up for Fisher and Foote is the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run, July 13-15 in Clayton, N.Y., followed by the Lake Champlain event. They’ll wrap up their boating season with the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run, November 7-13, though they are not sure if they’ll come by boat.

“We haven’t decided yet,” said Fisher. “But we are going to be there for sure.”
