CTS Shows Off First Gooseneck Trailer For Sunsation 40 CCX At Performance Boat Center Open House
Life could be worse for Jon Smiley, vice president of sales for CTS Custom Trailers in Muscatine, Iowa. Today, the ever-so-joyful, long-bearded trailer salesman got to show off three of the company’s custom-built trailers on a gorgeous day at the inaugural Performance Boat Center Open House and Boat Show, which runs through tomorrow (Saturday, April 13) at the multi-brand dealership on Lake of the Ozarks in Osage Beach, Mo.

On top of an all-black custom trailer for one of Performance Boat Center’s incoming Sunsation Powerboats 32 CCX models and another similarly looking, fully loaded trailer for a 38-foot Renegade Powerboats center console, Smiley and the team at CTS debuted the company’s first gooseneck trailer, which was built for a Sunsation 40 CCX that is being delivered to Puerto Rico later this month.
Unfortunately the gorgeous Sunsation wasn’t quite ready to make the trip from Michigan to Missouri for the boat show, but rest assured the 40-footer, which is powered by quad Mercury Racing 500R engines, and its trailer will come together soon. Like the boat it will be supporting, the trailer is loaded with options, including custom paint and lighting from Boogey Lights.
“We’re super excited to showcase our first gooseneck trailer at Performance Boat Center’s first Open House,” Smiley said. “It’s kind of a big deal for us. It was a lengthy and well-developed build.
“So far so good on day one, too,” he added. “It’s gorgeous here—a little windy and in the upper 60s. I have no complaints.”
That says a lot coming from the salesman who calls Southwest, Fla., home.

Ryan Wenk, Sunsation’s director of sales and marketing, was disappointed the boat is not in Missouri, but he said it needs more testing time since it’s the company’s first 40-footer with four 500R engines.
“Our goal was to be at PBC with the new 40 CCX this week, but we need more time here with the boat to be confident we’re shipping a quality product to our customer in Puerto Rico,” Wenk said. “Our next 40, which should be done in August, also is going to Puerto Rico.”
