Crypto Outerlimits Sale Makes Stark A Two-MTI Man

At least three factors likely made Crypto, a well-known 2020 model-year Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats SV 43 sportboat, a tricky sale. The asking price and cost-to-insure limits the would-be buyer-herd and the canopied V-bottom’s Stephen Miles Design paintjob is—like that of all themed boats—very specific. Despite that the work by Miles and his crew is considered artwork by many performance-boat fans, including this one, it’s not for everyone.

Just ask now-former-owner Chuck Stark, who listed the 43-footer in early August 2024 and finally sold it this month. Stark had more than a few deals for the Mercury Racing 1550/1350 V-bottom fall through in the past eight months.

“It’s finally gone,” Stark said, then chuckled.

Of course, the joyful South Carolina gentleman wasted no time replacing Crypto with another boat. He traded in his MTI V-42 center console to the Wentzville, Mo.-headquartered builder and purchased a 2022 model-year MTI V-50 powered by five Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines. That makes Stark a two-MTI-man, as he already owns a 390X catamaran with twin 500-hp outboards on its transom.

Stark plans to repower the center console with five V-10 400R outboards following an early May trip to the Bahamas on the boat with friends.

“She’s a beauty,” he said of his recent acquisition. “An MTI V-50 to go with the 390X—I’m stoked for the future.”
