Cox Group And Mercury Racing Honor MTI For 25th Anniversary

Unless you’re steeped in the go-fast boating business/media world, you probably aren’t familiar with the Cox Group of Charlotte, N.C. Nor necessarily should you be as the marketing and public relations outfit, led by Rodrick Cox—a familiar name of offshore racing fans for his longtime work for Super Boat International and current involvement with Race World Offshore—is decidedly behind the scenes.

Before the MTI Owners Fun Run to the Florida Keys from Haulover Marine Center last weekend, Rodrick Cox (left) of the Cox Group presented a trophy celebrating MTI’s 25th anniversary. to Randy Scism (in cap) Photo courtesy Rodrick Cox.

Among the Cox Group’s client-roster is MTI. The Wentzville, Mo.-based custom catamaran and center console builder has utilized the firm’s services for more than 10 years. And before the 45-boat MTI Owners Fun Run fleet departed Haulover Marine Center last Thursday for a gathering in the Florida Keys, Rodrick Cox presented an award to MTI founder and owner Randy Scism commemorating his company’s 25th anniversary.

“I had been thinking about it since the beginning of the year and I thought it would be great to commemorate MTI’s 25th anniversary in front of their 45-boat customer gathering,” he explained. “I asked Stuart Halley, the general manager of Mercury Racing, if he wanted to be involved and he said, ‘Of course.’

“So the Mercury Racing name is on the trophy and I think it’s a great gesture celebrating their longtime partnership with MTI,” he continued. “We were happy to present the trophy to Randy, Taylor, Cherell and their entire MTI team.”

Though Halley wasn’t there in person—he was at the Dubai Boat Show with Mercury Racing director of customer experience Steve Miller unveiling the Fond du Lac, Wis., company’s new V-10 400R outboard engine—he was there in spirit.

“Twenty five years in business does not come by chance,” he said. “It takes a combination of commitment, time and talent to evolve into the premier performance boat builder that MTI has. We’re very fortunate to work with a trusted partner like MTI, and we celebrate—and appreciate—its respected role in the industry as it reaches 25 years of business.”
