Connor Langheim To Join Bracket 700 Class In Key West – Speed on the Water

Showing no signs slowing, offshore powerboat racing’s youth movement will admit yet another new member during the Race World Offshore World Championships, November 6-13, in Key West, Fla. Connor Langheim, the 19-year-old son of Super Stock-class Jackhammer team owners Reese and Sara Langheim is entering the Bracket 700 ranks with veteran offshore racer Francisco Duran of Puerto Rico.

Langheim has been eager to compete since his family entered the sport in 2018.

“I’ve been wanting to race since the beginning, so I am extremely excited,” he explained. “I love being part of the offshore racing community. And it’s kind of in our family bloodline now.”

Langheim and Duran will compete in a 22-foot Activator V-bottom powered by a Mercury Racing 300R outboard engine. The boat currently is being rigged by Julian Maldonado at Manatee Marine Unlimited, a business he co-owns with the Langheims in Palmetto, Fla.

“They should be ready to start practicing this Thursday,” said Reese Langheim, who shares the cockpit of the Jackhammer team’s Super Stock catamaran with Maldonado. “Connor has been wanting to get in a raceboat forever.”

At present, Connor Langheim and Duran have not definitively settled on cockpit roles. The current plan calls for Langheim to start in the throttleman position and for Duran to get behind the wheel, then see where it goes.

Though Langheim is an offshore powerboat racing rookie, he did log plenty of time driving and throttle Jackhammer team’s for Bracket 700-class raceboat, which was a 22-foot Velocity.

“I used to take that boat everywhere,” he said. “We’ll see how it goes in Key West—we’ll see how it all gels together. Starting this week, we’ll be going to town nonstop with practice.”
