Class 1 World Championship Series Tight With Three Races Remaining

With the final three races of the Class 1 World Championship Series in Key West, Fla., a little more than a month away, the teams currently in the mix—222 Offshore Australia,  df Young, Huski Chocolate and JBS Racing—have much-appreciated time to prepare for the weeklong Race World Offshore-produced event. The standings are close with Huski Chocolate ahead of 222 Offshore Australia by 33 points and JBS Racing by 36 points.

That makes the three-race Key West happening—dubbed the American Power Boat Association/Union Internationale Motonautique Offshore World Championships—crucial for the Class 1 series finale. Although the trio Key West races combine for stand-alone world titles in the Super Cat and Stock classes, both of which run under APBA and UIM, they are simply the last three of eight races in the Class 1 World Championship Series.

That’s exactly what the team at P1 Offshore/Powerboat P1 had hoped for when the group rolled out the plan for the six-venue, eight-race Class 1 series in February 2022.

“With 222 Offshore Australia winning their second race of the season in Clearwater (Fla.) last weekend, they cut Huski Chocolate’s lead at the top of the Class 1 standings to just 33 points,” said Roy Mantle of United Kingdom-based P1 Offshore/Powerboat P1. “Now the focus is now on the three remaining races in Key West with a total of 60 points up for grabs. The winning team will be crowned on the Sunday and then invited to join the other UIM world champions at the UIM Gala Dinner in Monte-Carlo to be presented with the Sam Griffith Trophy.”

A trio of races in Key West in early November will determine world titles in the Super Cat (above) and Super Stock classes.

The APBA/UIM Offshore World Championship are set for November 6-13. Races are scheduled for Wednesday, November 9; Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 13.
