Class 1 M CON/Monster Energy Team Releases Graphics For New Skater Raceboat

Class 1 M CON/Monster Energy Team Releases Graphics For New Skater Raceboat

If the current schedule holds, the first Class 1 raceboat built by Skater Powerboats in Douglas, Mich., in 30 years will be at Osage Beach, Mo.-headquartered Performance Boat Center early next month for installation and rigging of its Mercury Racing 1100 Comp engines. Fans will get their first look at the 43-foot catamaran in action at the Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 World Championship Series season-opener, May 18-21, in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Currently under construction, the Class 1 M CON/Monster Energy Skater catamaran will be wrapped in bold graphics.

In the meantime, the cat’s graphics—mostly created by the team’s  Sydney Leckliter—have been finalized. Leckliter worked closely with Lindsey Miller, the wife of team owner/throttleman Tyler Miller, vice-president of M CON LLC and self-described “chaos coordinator” for the team.

“I’m not a graphic designer so my vision is way out of the box,” Miller said, then laughed. “Graphic designers, painters and artists probably get very frustrated with me, but they go with it and make our vision become a reality. We love clean, simple and classic in everything we do from our raceboats to our apparel, but we still like to have that edge, that ‘wow factor,’ that sets up apart from the rest.”

The team plans to run the entire five-race Class 1 schedule. Following the Cocoa Beach contest it will head for Sarasota, Fla. (June 30-July 2); Michigan City, Ind. (August 4-8); Sheboygan, Wis. St. Petersburg, Fla. (September 1-3) and Miami (TBC). Like the rest of the Class 1 fleet, the M CON/Monster Energy team also will compete in the Race World Offshore Championships, November 6-12 , in Key West, Fla. (A separate event, the Key West races are not part of the Class 1 series.)

Said Lindsey Miller, “We love clean, simple and classic, but still like to have that edge, that ‘wow factor,’ that sets up apart from the rest.”

M CON Racing is one of the most professionally run teams in offshore racing and—with the backing of Skater Powerboats and Monster Energy—they are sure to be a major force in UIM Class 1 this season,” said Azam Rangoonwala. “The decision by Monster Energy to sponsor a team in the series is testament to our ambition to return the world championship to the pinnacle of powerboat racing.”

“The full black graphics for the boat look incredible,” he added. “I personally cannot wait to see it on the race course.”

The M CON group is equally eager to start the Class 1 season.

“But at the end of the day we are still just team M CON—simple, down to earth, open-hearted,” said Lindsey Miller. “I like to think I have the ‘fun part,’ because making things look good doesn’t win races. I’ll leave that up to Tyler and Myrick Coil. I’m just trying to make sure my group looks damn good while doing it.”

Editor’s note: Speed On The Water and Scrapyard Media are producing a documentary video on the build of the Class 1 M CON/Monster Energy Skater raceboat. The video will air Thursday, May 18, before the Class 1 series season-opener in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
