In the News: Cigarette Owners Descending On Performance Boat Center
–>
Though the organized action begins today, owners of Cigarette Racing Team sportboats and center consoles from around the country have been arriving at Performance Boat Center in Osage Beach, Mo., all week. A fun run for the group on the Lake of the Ozarks is on tap this morning and will take participants to Coconuts Caribbean Beach Bar and Grill and Backwater Jacks before heading back for an evening welcome/pool party outside the Lakeside Grill and Red Head Yacht Club.
Among the early arrivals this week for the Performance Boat Center event is Ron Szolack, who purchased his 42 Huntress GTO from the dealership last August and hasn’t used it since.
The current registration total stands at 91 boats. Brett Manire, who co-owns the MTI, Performance Powerboats (read the story), Sunsation Boats and Velocity Powerboats dealership with Mark Waddington remains confident the total will top 100 entries, as it has for the past few years.
“There are people everywhere already,” said Manire. “The final count will be in the 100s, I promise.”
Performance Boat Center’s Myrick Coil said the dealership is flush with arrivals for the weekend.
“The boats are rolling in—It’s so busy I’m thinking of taking up smoking,” Coil said, then laughed. “No, kidding aside, it’s good scene with lots of good people.”
Ron Szolack and friends will enjoy his 42-foot Cigarette center console for the second time since he bought it in late 2021.
Among the Cigarette owners in town is Ron Szolack, a well-known member of the go-fast boating community who splits his time between homes in Michigan and Florida. Szolack purchased a Cigarette 42 Huntress GTO Reserve through Performance Boat Center during the 2021 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. He left the outboard engine-powered 42-footer at the dealership
“This will be my second time using it,” he said. “I’m here with Todd Fountain. We always have Cigarettes and run them together.
“And of course, I just love hanging out at Performance Boat Center,” he added. “Plus, I can check on the new house I’m building.”
Cigarette owners from around the country such as Southern California’s Dan Ellis with his 42X sportboat are arriving in Central Missouri today for this weekend’s happening on the Lake of the Ozarks.
