Chicago Yacht Club Announces First Female Commodore
Chicago Yacht Club has announced Lisa Curcio Gaston as its new commodore — the first woman to be elected commodore in the club’s 148-year history.
A Chicago native, Gaston says she has always loved the water but didn’t get involved in boating until she met her husband in the 1970s. She joined the club in 1997 and has been an avid boater for decades; during the summer months, she even lives on her boat. She has served CYC in a wide variety of capacities, most recently as vice commodore.
Gaston operates her own 52-foot boat and tells women of all ages that boating and sailing are open to them, they can achieve their goals. Professionally, she is a senior mediator and arbitrator for ADR Systems. Gaston was a judge assigned to the Circuit Court of Cook County for more than 16 years and was a practicing attorney for 13 years prior to that.
