In conjunction with its new exhibit, “The Maritime History of Charlevoix,” the Charlevoix Historical Society is hosting photographer and author Chris Roxburgh for a special presentation “Documenting Shipwrecks of the Great Lakes” on June 28, at the historical society’s train depot on Chicago Ave., in Charlevoix, Michigan.

An underwater photographer who’s been featured on local and national news, Roxburgh is the author of “Leelanau Underwater,” which details shipwrecks along Lake Michigan’s Manitou Passage, reports the Petoskey News-Review. He’s also an avid proponent in raising awareness of the growing problem of plastics pollution in the Great Lakes. Roxburgh’s photography of Prohibition-era party boat Keuka that sank off Charlevoix Ferry Beach in 1932 will be featured in the new maritime exhibit, which opens in July.
